At the Ravintola Kamome (Restaurant Kamome) we serve fresh, handmade healthy food with a deep taste, mostly out of seasonal products from around the region on the one hand and on the other hand with original Japanese products.

When Mr. Ogawa took over this restaurant in 2015 he decided to call it Ravintola Kamome, and bring it back more to a restaurant (ravintola) than a café, with new design and a new menu.

He became quickly aware that this should be a restaurant working with the best, natural, locally sourced ingredients, exclusively handcrafted into good tasting and beautiful dishes.

He traveled through Finland and Estonia, visited producers, farmers, gardeners, fishermen and butchers in order to find the best products for Kamome and its guests. Gradually, they built up a special network of suppliers and partners who provide Kamome with quality ingredients.

These gorgeous ingredients, such as salmon, muikku or herring , potatoes, vegetables, herbs… are simply processed in Kamome with great simplicity and high craftsmanship.

The product is at the center and is merely enhanced by the chefs.

Our inspiration comes on the one hand from nature and its rhythm, and on the other hand from the Finnish-Nordic and Japanese culinary traditions, the philosophy of Japanese cuisine, “Washoku”, where less is more and focus on the essentials:  the beauty of the ingredients and their original flavor.

Months were spent fermenting, baking, smoking, grilling..... until a cuisine of freshness, deep taste and plain naturalness came out. In this kitchen everything is handmade with great craftsmanship - from our rye-bread to our ice creams, our stocks and fonds, our food-souvenirs and of course our cinnamon rolls.

So, you can look forward to salmon, liquid cured, dried and rubbed with spices, then smoked over cherry wood at 60° C and finally served lukewarm with fresh made potato salad… Or to pork belly rubbed with butter and katsuobushi flakes, slowly cooked over 2 days in a broth of smoked pork ribs, served with wonderful vegetables in a Finnish cast iron pot… Or our fresh churned ice creams from Geisha chocolate with warm hazelnut cake, Matcha or lingonberry,…

Not forgetting our Japanese delicacies, such as mackerel in miso (Saba no miso ni), small sardines braised in sweet soy sauce, or pickled herring in spicy sweet and sour sauce…

It will be a pleasure for us to meet you at Ravintola Kamome and serve you our nice food….
